A delegation led by the Hon. Mohamed Abdulkadir Salah (Donyaale), Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, conducted a one-day monitoring visit to the Jiba-gale and 22aad agricultural zones in Garowe, Nugal Province. The visit formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing strategic efforts to assess the status of staple food crop production in the region, with particular focus on maize and other essential food crops.

The mission aimed to review the current production capacity of local farmers and to gain first-hand insight into the key challenges they face, including access to quality seeds, irrigation constraints, and the application of improved and climate-smart farming practices.

During the visit, the Ministry commended the farmers for their dedication, resilience, and strong commitment to contributing to the state’s food basket. The Ministry reaffirmed that empowering and supporting local farmers remains a core pillar of its strategic vision to enhance the production of staple food crops such as maize and beans, achieve self-sufficiency, and strengthen food security across the Puntland State of Somalia.
